Setting up/Hotmail, Outlook.com and Live

Hotmail, Outlook.com or Live.
One step is required.

These are personal Microsoft accounts, and they connect differently from Gmail or a work address. The first part below is the one that matters. The other two only decide where an email opens when you tap a task.

01In Claude · required on Connected

Add the Mail Bridge, not the address

Don’t add this address in Claude. Claude’s Microsoft 365 connector is for work and school accounts only, and there is no Hotmail connector. Nothing is wrong with your account.

Add the EmailOwl Mail Bridge connector instead. It reads this mailbox for your Claude account.

  1. In the EmailOwl app, copy the Mail Bridge URL. It’s personal to you, so the app shows it with a copy button.
  2. In Claude, go to Customize → Connectors and add a custom connector. Paste the URL and choose no authentication.
  3. Open the connector’s tools and set all three to Always Allow.
Your URL will look roughly like this, with your own code on the end:

How this mailbox reaches Claude

For Hotmail, Outlook.com and Live, your email passes through EmailOwl’s server on its way to your Claude account. It is never stored or logged. How the Mail Bridge handles it

The rest of the setup is the same for every mailbox: the Relay connector and the routine, on Setting up. On Private there is nothing to add in Claude, so skip this part.

02Open its emails in Apple MailiPhone and iPad · optional
  1. Go to Settings → Apps → Mail → Accounts → Add Account and choose Outlook.com. Not Microsoft Exchange, and not Other. Then sign in with Microsoft.
  2. Tap the new account and check Mail is on.
  3. Set Mail Days to Sync to No Limit. The default is 1 Month, so otherwise only the last month’s emails open from EmailOwl.
  4. Open the Mail app and wait for the account’s inbox to load.

Then, in EmailOwl: Settings → Mailboxes, and tap the circle beside the mailbox (“Set up in Apple Mail on this device?”).

Already added it another way, and it isn’t updating?

Delete it and add it again as Outlook.com. From 1 March 2026 Microsoft refused the older connection that the Exchange and Other choices use.

03Not using Apple Mail, or on a Mac?Nothing else to set up

On any device where this mailbox is signed in to EmailOwl, each Hotmail task has an Outlookbutton. It opens that exact email on outlook.live.com, in your browser.
